We've been sitting here with tears in our eyes, watching 3 generations sit around a table and share a few family truths. Imagine you, the mumzie and daughter around a table with the task to explain a time in your life you found really hard - what would you say (choose wisely)? Have you just seen the elephant that you've all needed to address for a few years now?
Whether you have done it before over a family brunch or have never dreamt of such a scenario for any reason, you can witness what that moment looks like for another family.
Jada Pinkett Smith had her daughter, Willow and mum Adrienne around The Red Table (literally and that is also the name of their Facebook channel) for mothers day (american timing) to talk about Jada's experience co-parenting Will Smith's son with his ex-wife, Sheree at the beginning of their relationship. The change in Adrienne's heart to the situation was heart warming and hearing Willow's reaction to this was emotional for sure.
In this 15 min conversation, here is what we took away:
Motherhood is different by generations and that’s OK because times change and expectations change. People will adapt but talking through differences is healing
A huge event in your life can effect your whole family - your children feel it and your mum has an opinion about it - so be cautious of what’s happening and changing in the present
Always be present and in the moment - it's a treasure to your babies
Parenting equals big sacrifices but you can live your life while being a mum - your children will still appreciate you if your heart is in the right place
You never stop being a mum no matter what
Share the best tips you’ve learned from your mum and what you’ve learned from your kids and do not forget to watch the video!
Oh and next time Jada and her family will be talking about grieving and loss.
